8/25 meeting

Tonight’s meeting –

We will be reviewing the prepared schedule and planning out our welcome night as well as promotions

Skill: How to work a camp stove.

Popcorn sales

We’re getting into popcorn season. Check out this document to get selling to support the troop! It will help you create an account. We’re doing direct online sales. Once you create an account with Trails-end, look at the training assets!

Our troop goal is to sell $1500 in popcorn! If we reach this goal, the troop will have an ice cream party. If we pass $2000, scout with the most sales revenue can pie an adult leader of their choice.

A return to in-person meetings

We’re hoping to return to in-person troop meetings this week or next.

As a “welcome back”, we will have pizza and play games. Then, our first order of business is to design troop T-shirts!

Wise Words from a Happy Camper pt 3

  1. Average local temperature increases with the amount of clothing packed.
  2. Tent stakes come only in the quantity ‘N-1’ where N is the number of stakes necessary to stake down a tent.
  3. Fuel in sealed bottles spontaneously evaporates.
  4. Fuel in stove reservoirs evaporates 10x as fast as fuel in sealed bottles.
  5. All available humidity and moisture will congregate on match heads.
  6. If no match heads are in the vicinity, all moisture will congregate inside waterproof clothing.

Scouting is postponed

Y’all, we won’t be having scouts until we are permitted to. (looking at early April…maybe)

Until then, check out these requirements for the Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge: https://www.scoutbook.com/mobile/references/boy-scouting/merit-badges/emergency-preparedness-merit-badge-requirements.asp

Hopefully, we won’t have to meet in secret like they did during war times in Europe.

Camping trip update

Be sure to come to the meeting on 3/17.

You’ll need to bring $10 if you’re coming on the camping trip, and come in uniform because we’re going shopping!

Wise Words From a Happy Camper part 2

  1. The need to urinate at night increases in direct relation to the hour past midnight, layers of clothing worn, occupants in your tent, and inches of rain since sunset. Curiously, it increases in ‘inverse’ relation to the outside temperature.
  2. The ground under shoulders compresses without sunlight while the ground under feet expands.
  3. Rocks and sticks rise above dirt when irritated by tent flooring fabric.
  4. Feet expand when removed from hiking boots. The same law applies to tents and tent bags, clothing and backpacks, and sleeping bags and stuff sacks.
  5. Backpack strap widths decrease with the distance hiked. To compensate, the weight of the backpack increases.
